Teton Sports Mesa
A family-friendly 6-person canvas tent right away: the Teton Sports Mesa Canvas Tent is the tent your kids will remember. Thanks to the great properties of canvas cotton, this tent provides great insulation not just in cooler weather, but it also stays cool when it’s hot outside.
Although the footprint is “only” 100 square foot (10 sq. metre), the near vertical walls and a full stand-up height ensure that you can maximize the space inside. The Mesa has extra-wide doors that allow you to move your camping gear in and out easily, and mesh screens for ventilation and views.
There are 2 large pockets; 2 multi-pockets and 2 overhead storage with load stabilizing drawstring to help make finding your gear easy.
You’ll stay dry and cool with the attached awning that helps to keep the sun off and the rain out. I already mentioned the oversized full mesh doors, but on top of that, the Teton Sports Mesa also has oversized air vents.
The high-quality zippers are large and double stitched-in for reinforcement that will last the entire life of the tent, and they are also covered to ensure that no water can get through there. The 285 gsm canvas walls won’t let through rainwater anyways, but the Teton Sports Mesa also has a reinforced vinyl flooring to make sure that you stay dry from every direction.
Pitching is extremely easy, and I don’t need to add that ‘despite being a canvas tent’: you just need to unroll the tent, push down the top bar, secure two pins and then attach the upright poles. The Teton Sports Mesa comes with stainless steel pegs – a much welcomed feature.
- Near vertical canvas walls
- High ceiling
- Oversized doors
- Easy pitching
Ozark Trail Instant 6-man Dome Tent
The Ozark Trail Instant Dome Tent’s strenght – like the name suggests – is the speedy set up. According to Ozark, this instant dome tent sets up in a mere 30 seconds. Even if it takes slightly longer, this 6-person tent requires no assembly because the poles are pre-attached to the tent, just unfold and extend.
(Just as a footnote: if there are any issues with instant tent, it’s not pitching, but rather putting it back to the bag AND keep the last crumbles of self-respect and sanity.)
But the Ozark Trail is really user friendly, even when packed up: it weighs only 13.35 lbs which is very good considering the size of the tent.
The Ozark Trail Instant Dome tent comfortably fits two queen airbeds or up to six campers in sleeping bags on the floor. It includes an adjustable ground vent and dual roof vents to keep the tent cool and comfortable. The 70″ height means that the Ozark Trail feels spacious, and people under 5.8 ft can almost stand up fully inside.
To make sure that water does not seep through from below, the Ozark Trail 6-man tent features a welded tub floor; while a waterproof polyester flysheet protects you from rain and wind.
It’s free standing frame design means that it’s stable, while the included stakes make sure that it does not go anywhere in windy weather.
There is also electrical cord access, so you can drive a power cord in without compromising the Ozark Trail’s water resilience.
- Welded Tub Floor
- 70″ Height
Eureka! Copper Canyon 6 Person Camping Tent
The Copper Canyon is a reasonably priced 6-person tent that provides reliable 3-season performance for campers of all skill levels. The near-cube design has an 84-inch peak and is 10 x 10 feet with slightly concave walls, making it a roomy alternative for sleeping six people.
It combines an aluminium and a steel frame to provide great structural integrity, and the whole thing can be put together in approximately 10 minutes after unpacking from a relatively tiny 8 x 26-inch storage and being reasonably lightweight at 21 lbs. The tub floor, which is waterproof and equipped with window shades and its own rainfly, also acts as a barrier against moisture, which may sometimes seep into tents during wet weather.
The huge front door allows for easy entry and exit, and the mesh windows, along with the mesh roof, constantly flow air through the tent. A small power plug pocket may be discovered in a low corner, allowing you to bring in electricity to charge your electronics or run an electric heater during colder weather.
There are lots of storage space to put your gear out of plain sight, such as dual storage pockets and an overhead gear hammock. The ceiling is covered in two removable reflective panels that bounce light off, giving you a more ambient feel inside
- Lots of Space With a 7-Foot-High Near-Cube Design
- Waterproof with a Rainfly and Tub Floor
- Extended front porch
UNISTRENGH Bell Tent with Pipe Vent
This 4-season cotton canvas tent – the 5M model in this example with a 16.4 ft diameter – really is an exceptionally big tent. If you have a party planning, or outdoor classes for kids, or camping in a big group of friends, or even a space to perform your massages at festivals, this large tent has the space to handle it. It can accommodate 6-8 people sleeping comfortably on inflatable mattresses (3 queen size mattress fits inside easily). Or, more than 25 seated adults can squeeze in there, depending on what you use this bell tent for.
The entrance is 5.58 ft /1.7 metres high, but once you are inside you’ll be stunned by the 9.8 ft / 3 metres internal height. There are vents at ground level and on the ceiling to make a steady breeze across the tent. You also have a pipe hole for a chimney, should you want to have a stove inside to keep the tent warm even in winter.
The Unistrengh 5M Bell Tent comes in a handy carry bag but you need a strong grip (or rather, another person) to carry the tent. Canvas is quite heavy, this is a large tent, so the bag weighs 77.2 lbs (35 kgs), which is well above what you can easily chuck into the boot or onto the roof rack.
Pitching is easy (bar dragging the heavy canvas), there is literally one center pole, a few guylines that need staking out, and one pole for the door.
This cotton canvas tent – like all canvas tents – is extremely water proof after it’s been through one rain. Cotton fibres grow their size when they become wet, thus creating a waterproof fabric as they squeeze into each other. Canvas tents don’t need extra waterproofing layers, but this bell tent has received a layer that protects you and the fabric from harmful UV rays.
The ground sheet is made of 540gsm ripstop PVC, waterproof and is detachable from the tent.
As for packing away, you really should not pack it away unless the canvas is dry, or be sure to thoroughly dry within one day or two if you are forced to pack up while wet.
- 300gsm canvas, 540 gsm PE groundsheet is the recipe for a weatherproof tent
- 4-season tent with stove pipe vent
- Double sided and double handle SBS zippers.
- Mesh doors and windows
- Side windows and 4 vents on the apex, with mesh. 4 inside pockets for extra storage.
- Wonderful view: It has full zip around the bottom and you can roll all up for a 360 panoramic view.
ALPS Mountaineering Camp Creek 6-Person Tent
This 6-person tent from ALPS has quality written all over it and is available in a variety of colour schemes. The 100 square foot interior provides plenty of space for many people, mattresses, dogs, and furnishings after unpacking from its 8.5” x 28” storage dimensions.
A relatively simple design employs fibreglass poles that attach to steel uprights via clips, resulting in a robust frame for this 24 pound shelter. With 7 feet of height, you can attach a ceiling light or lantern to keep things bright when the sun goes down, and the 5 x 4 foot wide door won’t obstruct your entrances and exits.
There’s also no need to worry about wet days with the Camp Creek’s completely taped seams and a 1500mm waterproof covering on the tent fabric and rainfly, which doubles as an awning over the front entrance and rear window. Furthermore, the 150D polyester oxford floor bathtub design protects against moisture all around.
The mesh ceiling and four adjustable windows make it easy to keep the tent ventilated, and ALPS provides pegs, guy ropes, and storage shelves, giving you everything you need for your outdoor shelter.
- Fully Taped Seams and 360 Degree Waterproof Protection
- 100 Square Feet for Multiple People Plus Furniture

The Core 6-person quick cabin tent combines quality and simplicity to provide a cost-effective multi-person outdoor shelter. The tent is pre-assembled when you unpack it from its 47 x 9 x 9 inch carrying bag, so all you have to do is extend the legs and stand them up for the simplest tent set-up ever.
The seam-taped rainfly attaches into the legs and works together with the connected guy lines to keep you dry during downpours. With 11 by 9 foot dimensions, you’ll have plenty of internal space to walk around, and a central height of 6 feet can comfortably seat the majority of campers.

Columbia Mammoth Creek Cabin Tent
The Columbia Mammoth Creek Cabin tent is a high quality camping tent, that I would whole-heartedly recommend for family camping for a family of 4 or 5. It is a bit of a stretch for 6 people, but if you happen to have 4 kids, than by all means, you will not be short of space on the 10′ x 9′ x 72″ footprint.
The walls are near vertical to maximize the space inside, while the 72″ high ceiling means that you can virtually stand up everywhere in the tent without bending.
The pullout windows are just fantastically inventive: they provide great ventilation / views while they are also protected from rain falling in. There are also further adjustable air vents nearer to ground level to ensure there’s a steady airflow across the tent. The doors is wide and has no-see-um mesh.
The tub-like floor and the 75D ‘Omni-coated’ tent fabric with taped seams ensure that you are protected from the elements.
The Columbia Mammoth Creek comes in a rectangular shaped carrybag that of course includes the tent fabric and the fibreglass poles too, yet, it’s only 8.27″ x 8.27″ x 27.95″, and weighs 22 lbs.
There are some storage pockets but sadly there’s no ceiling mesh.
- Bathtub floor and high quality fabrics for 3-season camping
- Pull-out windows
- No-see-um mesh
Coleman Elite WeatherMaster 6-person Tent with Screen Room
The Coleman Elite WeatherMaster is a 6-person tent with two independent rooms made of 75D polyester taffeta. The main tent has 99 square feet of useable space, and the adjacent screened room has 54 square feet of bug-free space that can be utilized to chill out or sleep in when the weather permits.
An average sized adult will comfortably fit inside, and the mesh canopy provides superb breathability and skylight views for stargazing. Coleman provides an overhead light so you don’t have to bring a lamp, and a switch on the side of the tent allows you to adjust the brightness to low, medium, or high.
With a waterproofed tub floor, welded corners and floor seams, taped seams on the rainfly, inverted seams for a superior seal, waterproof coated fabric, a strong frame to withstand stormy conditions, and zipper cuffs to prevent moisture from seeping through the smallest of cracks, their patented Weathertec system eliminates the chance of rain ever getting inside the tent.
You can keep your electronics powered up by bringing electricity in through the e-port flap, and everything shrinks down into a little bag on wheels that can be moved anywhere.
- Virtually Impenetrable Weatherproof 6-Man Tent
- High-Quality Poles and Fabric
- 99 Square Feet of Interior Space with Additional Screened Room
The North Face Wawona 6 tent
The new North Face Wawona 6 is a double-wall tent with just about enough room for six people on 86 sq.ft floor area – on the other hand it has ceilings high enough to stand and great vestibules: this family tent features a large double-door front vestibule and a rear door and vestibule.
There are loads of family-friendly features such as internal dry lines, hang loops and a hook-and-loop lantern loop, that offer everyday conveniences when you’re out camping. A tablet pocket plus extra mesh pockets help keep your essentials handy.
This tent’s fly, canopy and floor are made from durable polyester with a PU-coated, water-resistant finish. Large top vents help prevent condensation, and there are two large windows that provide great visibility and breathability on warm days.
Pitching is easy, there are only 3 fibreglass poles (2 for the tent, 1 for the vestibule), 14mm thick each to increase stability. The carry bag is more like a sack so you will have no issues putting the Wawona 6 back in the bag when packing away. The sack weighs around 20 lbs (10 kgs), so it is easy to carry.
- Front and back vestibule
- Full stand-up height
- Double wall construction
Timber Ridge 6-Person Instant Cabin Tent with Rainfly
Timber Ridge created this 6 person quick tent for individuals who want something that is ready to use right now. Laying it flat out of its storage bag, all you have to do is bend each of the four poles out and pull out the legs until they lock into position, allowing you to have it up in seconds.
The rain fly has a front door drip guard that is simple to attach and works great with the bathtub floor to keep you dry when the weather turns nasty. This 10 × 10 tent has good ventilation throughout, with three mesh windows and a mesh top at the 78-inch peak, allowing for stargazing or tanning.
Pockets on the inside give storage space, the zippers on the wide entrance operate smoothly and without catching, and, most interestingly, the tent effortlessly folds back into its carrying bag, which is an issue that most tent manufacturers fail to overcome.
- Super-easy pitching and packing away
- Waterproof Rainfly and Bathtub Floor Design
- Plenty of Room (100 sqft) and Ventilation Throughout
Coleman 6 Person Steel Creek Fast Pitch Dome Tent with Screen Room
Coleman’s 6 person dome tent is a tough outdoor shelter with plenty of space and comfort for three-season camping. Wet weather will no longer be an issue with their famous Weathertec system, as the tent is outfitted with an array of waterproofing features such as a rain resistant fly and tent fabric, inverted seam stitching, zipper cuffs, a completely sealed up floor, and a sturdy frame built to withstand 35 mph+ winds.
The rainfly also acts as a little canopy over windows, allowing for ventilation while keeping you dry. This tent is divided into two sections: the main tent (90 square feet) and a secondary screened area (50 square feet).
With a height of 68 inches, you have plenty space to move around and change, though anyone taller than 5’8″ will have to lean down slightly. The screened room allows you to appreciate nature while remaining bug-free, and it also serves as additional sleeping space.
The many mesh windows allow for good airflow throughout the tent, and the robust color-coded poles and clips make setup simple and quick, with your tent entirely up in 5-10 minutes. Reflective guy lines are a great late-night feature to avoid tripping over them, an e-port can be used to run power into the shelter, and a variety of interior storage pockets round out the features on this superb alternative from Coleman.
- Extremely Affordable 6 Person Tent
- Great for Wet Weather with Superior Weatherproofing Design
- Includes Separate Screened Room for Bug-Free Camping
OT QOMOTOP Tents, 6-Person 60 Instant Camping Tent
QOMOTOP’s 6-person tent has 90 square feet of habitable interior space and a central height of 66 inches, allowing you to fit people, air mattresses, backpacks, and all your belongings when camping in the wilderness. It has not got the biggest footprint, and it is not the one with the highest ceiling either, but with its instant setup and reasonable price the QOMOTOP 6-person tent is something to consider for everyone who is looking for a budget tent.
The footprint is 10′ by 9′, so it is a bit tight for 6 adults, but it’s more than ideal for 2 adults and the kids. QOMOTOP officially recommends it for 3 adults and 3 children.
The materials used are also very reasonable considering the price of this 6-man tent, the 68D 190T polyester is quite commonplace even on more expensive tents. The bathtub floor and the 600mm .H coating on the rainfly and tent wall will keep you dry in light rain, but I recommend avoiding heavy rainfalls. You also need to be careful not to lean anything against the walls when it rains, otherwise water will seep through. Removing the rainfly will reveal the large mesh skywindows.
Because the rainfly only covers the roof with a modest awning over the windows, each window and door has movable zip-up coverings for privacy and keeping inclement weather out.
One person can set it up in less than a minute by extending the telescopic legs and propping them upright before pinning down the shelter.
As a result, it is an excellent choice for folks who go for vacation after work and arrive at their campsites after dark. A ground ventilation system draws in air, while the mesh windows, ceiling, and door expel it, resulting in optimal internal airflow.
An electrical cord access point is included as a bonus feature, and inner pockets on the top and sides enable for phone and tablet storage that may be hung up to watch movies while laying down.
- 6 Person Instant Popup Tent with 90 Square Feet of Space
- Premium Ventilation with Ground, Side and Roof Vents
- Bathtub floor and 600mm Waterproofing (showerproof)
KAZOO SATURN Family Camping Tent 6-person
You might be interested in reading my full review on the KAZOO Saturn Instant Cabin tents, because I was quite impressed with what they have on offer. This 6-person instant tent has a cabin-shaped design to provide great space inside; it can comfortably accommodate six individuals. It’s one of the largest rapid cabin tents on the market. The automatic mechanism makes it a very convenient 6 person tent. It is a simple and quick process to get everything up and running, it can be opened and closed in 30 seconds by one person according to KAZOO, but even if it is a slight overstatement of the ease of pitching, it certainly does not take longer than a few minutes…
The Kazoo Large cabin tent has two layers: B3 mesh no-see-um netting and 190T breathable polyester make up the liner. The rainfly is made of 210T Ripstop Polyester. With a waterproof rating of 3000mm, this four-person tent has passed the test. It has a robust but light structure with ultra-lightweight premium 19mm aluminium poles.
Easy entry and smooth closure are made possible by two huge dual-zipper doors with taped seams. The zipped door may be raised to create a parasol; children can nap inside the tent while adults relax outside. It works nicely on most occasions as a very convenient 6 person quick tent.
Two small double mattresses fit inside, and there’s enough headroom to sit up comfortably plus there’s plenty of space left inside for your gear and equipment. If you go camping with sleeping bags, 8 people might fit in, depending on the number of children in the group.
The carrybag weighs 17.6 lbs (8 kgs), so it is not going to be your backpacker tent, but can be carried reasonably easily.
- Excellent weather protection with 3000mm HH 210T Ripstop flysheet
- Easy setup within 60 seconds
- Large internal space for up to 8 people
- Choice of various colors (yellow, blue, green)
- 2-year warranty
When you are still in the process of learning about tents, purchasing one might be overwhelming. Here’s a quick rundown of the key features to look for when selecting the best 6-man tent for your needs.
There are various designs and construction that you can select from, each has its pros and cons.
Pop-up tents, often known as instant shelters, unfold from their carrying case/bag and are ready to use. They are pre-assembled and, for the most part, need only that you extend their telescoping legs, prop them up, and then stake them down for security. It’s quite simple and can be completed in under a minute. Many campers choose this choice because it allows them to get at their campsites much more easily after work.
Cabin tents, dome tents
Cabin tents are designed to optimize space with near upright walls that provide full interior height. Dome tents are fairly common and provide a lot of room, with the tent supported by a solid “X” fibreglass or aluminium frame. These tents must be built from the ground up, which may be an unappealing alternative for some. They do, however, not take a lot of work and may be fully pitched in 5 to 10 minutes. Because they do require installation, they can be less expensive than pop-up shelters in some cases.
It is critical to keep rain out of your tent if you intend to use it for three-season camping. The majority of manufacturers will waterproof their tents with a 1500mm polyurethane covering, however others would only accomplish the minimal minimum of 600mm. Look for tents with a bathtub floor, zipped windows, and fully-taped seams on the rainfly and tent itself, as these things make a big difference in keeping you dry. Some models will even include inverted stitching, zipper cuffs, and rainfly awnings to protect the windows when it rains.
If you’d like to learn more about tent lingo when it comes to describing the qualities of the fabric, I recommend my FAQ post: Tent materials, fabrics, specifications and all the acronyms. FAQ.
You’ll never again be confused if your read something like ‘300gsm 75D 190T 1500mm HH polyoxford ripstop flysheet’.
With so many of us reliant on our smartphones these days, an increasing number of tents include an electrical port slot that can be used to run power into the tent for charging. It’s also a handy feature if you wish to utilise an electric heater when camping. Tents with vestibules are also appealing since you can use this extra area to store your gear and boots, keeping the inside of the tent clean and clear of obstructions.
Some 6 person tents include a separate screened chamber where you may lounge outside while staying bug-free. When the weather permits, these can also be used as extra sleeping space. All tents will include gear lofts for storage and several pockets for storing your gadgets
6 man tents are not inexpensive, but there are some good discounts out there. Many cost more than $200, with prices rising as the quality and quantity of features increase. Budget 6-person tents cost around $120, decent quality tents cost between $200 and $250, and high quality tents cost $400 or more. Depending on the structure and fabrics used, sky is the limit.
